Hardik Pandya emerged as the fast-bowling allrounder India had been seeking ever since the legendary Kapil Dev hung his playing boots. Hardik burst onto the scene after delivering a string of impressive performances for Baroda.
He was then spotted by the former Mumbai Indians coach John Wright, who aided his entry into the franchise. Mumbai Indians bid for Hardik at the IPL 2015 auction and acquired his services by paying INR 10 lakhs.
Hardik didn’t have a really good maiden IPL season with the ball in hand. He bowled 17 overs and could only manage a single wicket at an economy of 10.35. However, he made an impression with the willow in hand. He aggregated 112 runs in eight innings at an average of 22.40 and a strike rate of 180.64, including a personal best of 61*.
IPL 2016 turned out to be fairly ordinary for the batting allrounder. He could only bag three wickets in 10 innings at an economy rate of 9.18. The right-hander accumulated 44 runs at a paltry average of 6.28 and a strike rate of 69.84.
IPL 2017 saw him put the disappointment of the previous season behind. Hardik racked up 250 runs across 16 innings at an average of 35.71 and a strike rate of 156.25. He also picked up six wickets at an economy rate of 8.19.
His yearly IPL earnings jumped to 10900% in the 2018 season, and he received a renewed INR 11 crore contract. He remained at Mumbai until the 2021 season for the same contract and was then released. Hardik was signed by Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2022 for a whopping sum of INR 15 crore.
He led them to the title in their maiden IPL season and also to a runner-up finish in 2023. Hardik made his way back to his first home ahead of the 2024 season, replacing Rohit Sharma as their new captain. He was paid INR 16.35 crore for the 2025 season of the IPL by Mumbai Indians.
