Mitchell Starc had a night to forget when Delhi Capitals (DC) met Punjab Kings (PBKS) in match 55 of IPL 2026 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (HPCA) in Dharamsala on May 11.
Delhi’s INR 11.75 crore signing registered his most expensive spell in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-arm speedster conceded 57 runs in four overs, leaking runs at an alarming rate of 14.25. His spell included three wides and nine dot balls.

Starc was carted around by the Punjab Kings batters on Monday. The Aussie seamer struggled to land the ball in the right areas and was shown no mercy by the hosts. He was able to salvage some pride in his last over of the spell. Starc dismissed compatriot Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh on consecutive deliveries in the penultimate over of the first innings.
The overseas pacer had previously given away 55 runs in three overs at an economy rate of 18.33 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). It was a home game for KKR at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and held on April 21, 2024. KKR had spent INR 24.75 crore to acquire the services of Starc at the IPL 2024 auction, making him the most expensive player in the history of the tournament.
Most expensive spells ever recorded in IPL
Though Starc registered his most expensive spell, he is nowhere close to the unwanted list featuring bowlers who have leaked the most runs in an IPL innings.
England’s Jofra Archer is at the top of the undesired list. He leaked 76 runs at an economy rate of 19.00 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 23, 2025.
