Captain Shreyas Iyer pinned the blame for Punjab Kings’ loss in match 55 of the ongoing IPL season on his bowlers and fielders. Defending 210 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (HPCA) in Dharamsala, Punjab dropped two catches and misfielded multiple times.
Consequently, Delhi secured a three-wicket win with six balls to spare.Iyer felt that 210 was 30 runs more than par at the venue, as the ball was hooping around and there was also some variable bounce on offer. He was irked by the lack of discipline shown by his pacers.”Don’t have to beat around the bush, but fielding and bowling again,” said Iyer during the post-match presentation.”

“(On if the score was enough) Absolutely. Feel it was 30 runs more on this wicket, given how the ball was seaming and the variable bounce. (On not bowling Chahal) It was a thought but the way it was seaming, if we had executed our lines and lengths, we may have gotten wickets. But we did not. I always say that hard length or short of hard length is the best ball. Not easy to hit (for someone coming in). We fell short of planning,” he added.
How can Punjab Kings qualify for the IPL 2026 Playoffs?
Punjab Kings (PBKS) have made life extremely arduous for themselves. Once atop, they have now slipped to fourth on the points table with six wins and four losses after 11 games. The last year’s runners-up need to win three of their remaining three games to advance to the playoffs without having to rely on anybody else.
If they win two of their remaining three, then they have to hope both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) lose a minimum of one game each.If Punjab only win one of their remaining three, then they have to pray for CSK and RR to lose two of their remaining fixtures.
