Rohit Sharma IPL Salary

Rohit Sharma entered the mega auction of the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a base price of USD 150,000. Rohit caught the attention of the Deccan Chargers (DC) franchise as they splurged INR 3 crore to rope him in.

Rohit came into the inaugural edition of the IPL with quite a swagger about him. He was a member of India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 winning team. Rohit had played a few crucial knocks for Team India under pressure during the multi-nation tournament in South Africa.

He scored an unbeaten 50 off 40 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 125.00 to help India beat the hosts from a precarious position. His unbeaten 16-ball 30 in the final against arch-rivals Pakistan also came at a stage when the Men in Blue were staring down the barrel.

He struck two fours and a six and batted at a strike rate of 187.50 to take India to 157, which proved just enough in a nail-biting affair. The right-handed batter notched up impressive numbers in his maiden IPL season. He aggregated 404 runs at an average of 36.72 and a strike rate of 147.98 across 12 innings with a best of 76*.

While Deccan Chargers bagged the wooden spoon, Rohit finished IPL 2008 with fond memories. Rohit played for Deccan Chargers for two more seasons before Mumbai Indians splurged INR 9.04 crore at the auction to acquire his services ahead of the 2011 IPL season.

After playing under the captaincy of Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting, among others, Rohit took over as skipper in the 2013 season. He made an immediate impact as he led Mumbai to their maiden IPL title in 2013. Rohit remains one of the most successful captains in the history of the cash-rich league. He won five titles before stepping down after the 2023 season.
