Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shatters Sachin Tendulkar’s 36‑year‑old international record

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has broken Sachin Tendulkar’s 36‑year‑old record as the youngest male cricketer from an ICC full‑member nation to score a fifty. At just 15 years and 118 days, Sooryavanshi is now the youngest half‑centurion in men’s international cricket, across both full‑member and Associate nations of the ICC.

Tendulkar was 16 years and 213 days old when he scored a fifty against Pakistan in a Test match in Faisalabad in November 1989.Sooryavanshi reached the milestone on July 23 in the first of the three‑match T20I series against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club.

He needed only 18 balls to reach his fifty, surpassing Kushal Malla’s record as the youngest in men’s internationals (across formats) to achieve a fifty‑plus score.Nepal’s Malla was 15 years and 340 days old when he scored a fifty against the USA in an ODI in Kirtipur in 2020.

Before Sooryavanshi, Louis Bruce of Gibraltar held the record as the youngest half‑centurion in men’s T20Is. Bruce was 16 years and 56 days old when he scored a fifty against Malta in Albergaria in 2021.
