Gujarat Titans suffer biggest defeat in terms of runs in IPL

Gujarat Titans suffered a new low on Monday, April 20. They folded for 100 in just 15.5 overs in match No. 30 of IPL 2026 and suffered their biggest loss (in terms of runs) in the tournament.Titans were handed a shellacking by five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by a margin of 99 runs. Playing at home (Narendra Modi Stadium) in Ahmedabad, Titans were favourites coming into the contest but were blown away by Mumbai’s might.

Titans’ previous biggest loss had come against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 83 runs on May 25, 2025 in Ahmedabad.Their total of 100 is also their second lowest in the IPL. Their lowest remains the 89 all out against Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2024.Mumbai racked up 199 for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. The star of Mumbai’s innings was Namboori Thakur Tilak Varma.

Tilak registered his maiden IPL hundred. He ended up scoring 101* off 45 balls. His innings was laced with eight fours and seven sixes and came at a strike rate of 224.44.

The loss also put an end to Titans’ three-match-long winning streak. Their winning streak included wins over Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders. They had beaten Delhi by one run, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven wickets and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by five wickets.

Titans are now sixth on the points table. With six points after three wins and as many losses, they have a net run rate (NRR) of -0.821.The winners of the 2022 edition of the IPL will now lock horns with the defending champions. Titans will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in an away game on April 24 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The fixture between Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be the 34th match of the IPL 2026.
