Australia’s premier women’s T20 competition, the Women’s Big Bash League, is back for its 12th season and will get underway on Thursday, October 29.
The curtain‑raiser at Junction Oval will see two‑time champions Sydney Thunder face off against former winners Melbourne Renegades. Fans will be treated to a double‑header on opening day, with the Melbourne Stars taking on defending champions Hobart Hurricanes in the second fixture at the same venue.

This season will feature 43 matches in total, culminating in the grand final on December 5.
WBBL Playoffs Format Explained
The playoff structure remains one of the most exciting aspects of the league.
After 40 round‑robin games, the bottom four teams are eliminated.
The top four advance to the playoffs.
Teams finishing 3rd and 4th meet in the Knockout, hosted by the 3rd‑placed side.
The Knockout winner then travels to face the 2nd‑placed team in the Challenger, with a spot in the final at stake.
The team finishing 1st in the group stage earns a direct entry to the final and the right to host it.
