Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has released the schedule of India’s forthcoming two-match Test tour. The Galle International Cricket Stadium (GICS) will host the Test series opener from August 15 to 19, whereas the second Test will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo. The second Test will get underway on August 23. The series will be a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle 2025-27.

India crush Afghanistan in historic Test win

India recently played a one‑off Test against Afghanistan at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, and the result was nothing short of emphatic. The hosts bulldozed Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs, their biggest innings victory in Test history in terms of runs.

Batting first, India piled up 564/8 declared, powered by centuries from KL Rahul (100) and Shubman Gill (126). Afghanistan were then bundled out for 152 in the first innings and 112 in the second after being asked to follow on. The star of the match was slow left‑arm orthodox bowler Manav Suthar, who scored a handy 28 runs and returned match figures of 7/62 to claim the Player of the Match award.

This fixture, however, was not part of the ongoing WTC 2025‑27 cycle.

India’s WTC position

India currently sit fifth on the WTC table. They have played nine Tests in this cycle, winning four, losing four, and drawing one. Their victories include two away wins against England last year and two at home against West Indies. On the flip side, they suffered two defeats in the Anderson‑Tendulkar Trophy against England and were swept aside 2‑0 by South Africa at home in November.

India have collected 52 points and hold a points percentage (PCT) of 48.15.

Sri Lanka’s WTC position

Sri Lanka are just behind India in sixth place. They have one win, one loss, and one draw so far, giving them a PCT of 44.44. At present, they trail 1‑0 in an ongoing two‑match series against West Indies, which could prove crucial in shaping their campaign.
