Ryan Rickelton unleashed beast mode on Wednesday (April 29) in match 41 of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Opening the innings for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rickelton smashed an unbeaten hundred.

The southpaw scored an unbeaten 123 off just 55 balls, while occupying the crease for almost two hours (119 minutes). His innings included 10 fours and eight sixes at a strike rate of 223.63. His knock helped Mumbai Indians post an imposing total of 243 on the board at a loss of five wickets.

Rickelton’s 123 is now the highest individual score for Mumbai Indians in the history of the Indian Premier League. He shattered the 18-year-old record of Sanath Jayasuriya. Jayasuriya had scored 114* off just 48 balls against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 36 of the IPL 2008.

Jayasuriya’s unbeaten hundred helped Mumbai Indians chase 157 down with nine wickets and 37 balls to spare. Jayasuriya was adjudged the Player of the Match (POTM).

Mumbai Indians slump further below in IPL 2026

Despite scoring 243, Mumbai Indians still lost against Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets and eight balls to spare. Mumbai are ninth on the points table with just two wins and six losses in eight matches. They have accumulated just four points and have a net run rate (NRR) of -0.784.

This was Mumbai’s fourth consecutive loss at the Wankhede. Never have they suffered four losses in a row at the venue in the IPL before. Their aura of invincibility is gradually fading this season. However, they are still in control of their playoff chances. They still have six matches left, and a win in each of those games can still land them a playoff spot.

Meanwhile, this was also Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fifth consecutive win this season.
