Mitchell Marsh registers fastest century for LSG in IPL

Lucknow Super Giants’ destructive opening batter Mitchell Marsh rewrote the record books on Thursday as he smashed a whirlwind ton against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in match 50 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Marsh, who came out to bat after RCB won the toss and asked LSG to set a score on the board, proved unstoppable. Nicknamed ‘The Bison’, Marsh obliterated RCB’s bowling attack. He smacked nine fours and as many sixes during his 111-run knock. He batted at a mind-boggling strike rate of 198.21.

Marsh’s knock came to an end when he was on 111 after Josh Hazlewood dismissed him. The right-handed opener scripted history by becoming the fastest to score a hundred from LSG. Marsh took only 49 balls to reach the three-figure mark and broke the record of his captain, Rishabh Pant.

Pant had used only 54 balls to register a century for LSG in match No. 70 against the same opposition, RCB. His feat also came at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on May 27 last year. Unfortunately for Pant, his ton ended in a losing cause after RCB chased down 228 with eight balls to spare.
