KL Rahul has become the first player in the 19-year-long history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to score 1000-plus runs for three different franchises. No other player has ever touched this milestone. The wicketkeeper batter registered the feat in match No. 52 of the ongoing season while batting against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Delhi Capitals is the third franchise for which Rahul has scored 1000-plus runs in the IPL. He amassed 2548 runs for Punjab Kings during his time at the franchise from 2018 to 2021. Rahul also had the privilege of leading the side.

Punjab Kings (then KXIP) roped him in for a sum of INR 11 crore ahead of the 2018 season. Rahul’s tally of 2548 runs for Punjab are the most by a player for Punjab Kings in T20 history. He then joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the 2022 season and played three IPL editions for them until 2024.

In three years, Rahul aggregated 1410 runs for the Sanjeev Goenka-led franchise, at an average of 41.47 and a strike rate of 130.67. He also struck two centuries and 10 fifties. Rahul found a new home ahead of the 2025 season at Delhi Capitals. Delhi splurged INR 14 crore to sign him up. He was retained ahead of the 2026 IPL mini auction for the same price.

KL Rahul becomes quickest to 1000 runs for Delhi Capitals

Rahul has shattered the joint record held by Rishabh Pant and JP Duminy to become the fastest to 1000 runs for Delhi Capitals. The record previously belonged to Duminy and Pant, who had taken 35 innings to reach the landmark. Rahul has only used up 23 innings to accumulate 1000 runs for Delhi Capitals.
