England have been handed a timely lift with Brydon Carse added to their squad for the three‑match ODI series against India. The bowling allrounder returns after an injury layoff, marking his comeback to international cricket.
Carse was part of England’s Ashes squad last November and played all five Tests against Australia, emerging as their most successful bowler. He claimed 22 wickets at an average of 30.31, including two four‑wicket hauls. His growing reputation also saw him retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for IPL 2026 at INR 1 crore.
However, he was ruled out of the 19th edition after suffering a hand injury during training ahead of the curtain‑raiser. SRH were forced to replace him with Sri Lanka’s left‑arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka.

Following rehab, Carse returned to competitive cricket with Durham in the ongoing T20 Blast. On comeback, he delivered figures of 2/28 in four overs against Derbyshire, helping his side to a narrow five‑run win. He then featured against Lancashire, returning 1/36, though Durham went down by three wickets.
Why Carse’s inclusion matters
Carse’s addition comes at a crucial juncture for England, who were beaten by India in the series opener at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Batting first, England’s middle order collapsed before a 121‑run stand between Liam Dawson and Joe Root lifted them to 258.
India stumbled early at 48/2, losing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, but England’s bowlers failed to capitalise. The visitors chased down the target with 28 balls to spare, sealing a six‑wicket win. With the series now delicately poised, Carse’s presence offers England both depth and balance in their bowling attack. The second ODI will be played at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on July 16.
