Tim David fined

Tim David has been penalised heavily for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team officials. He has also accumulated two demerit points for the offence and has been charged 30% of his applicable match fee for “using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting.”

He will face a one-match suspension if he accumulates one more demerit point. The incident unfolded during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) fixture on May 10 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

This was David’s second offence of the ongoing season. He was also charged 25% of his match fee and accumulated one demerit point for a  Level 1 code of conduct breach in match 20 against Mumbai Indians.

He was found guilty of breaching Article 2.4, pertaining to “disobeying an umpire’s instruction during a match” on two instances. The first incident unfolded when the two on-field umpires Kannur Swaroopanand and Virender Sharma changed the ball in the 18th over. David took the ball from the umpires and kept juggling it after having a close look at it. Swaroopanand repeatedly tried to restrain the Aussie from doing so, but he didn’t budge.

He repeated the same in the last over and “again did not hand over the ball to the umpires, amounting to repeated failure to comply with the instructions or directives of the umpires.” David accepted the match referee’s decision.

RCB’s head coach Andy Flower fined for use of an audible obscenity

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s head coach, Andy Flower, was also fined 15% of his applicable match fee in the RCB vs MI clash in Raipur on Sunday.

“Andy was found to have breached article 2.3 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “use of an audible obscenity during a match.” The incident occurred in 17.2 over when Andy spoke aggressively with the fourth umpire. Andy admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee, Amit Sharma,” read IPL’s press release.
