A lot is set to change in the fifth edition of the ILT20 as the organisers of the tournament have made it mandatory for all five franchises to include a minimum of four Afghan and one Irish player in their squads. Each team is permitted to have 11 overseas players in its squad. The four Afghan and one Irish player are to be included in the quota of 11 foreign players allowed for every franchise.
“Of the 11 minimum Full Member players, at least 4 must be from Afghanistan and at least 1 must be from Ireland,” a directive shared by the organisers of the ILT20 with the five franchises, accessed by Cricbuzz, read.
The following changes have been mandated by the organisers of the ILT20 ahead of season 5, set to be played from November 22 to December 20 in the UAE:
1. Each side needs to have a total of 11 Full Member players
2. Of the 11 Full Member players, four must be from Afghanistan and one from Ireland
3. Four UAE players to be a part of every squad (including one U-23 player and one capped player)
4. T20 GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) players to be a part of each squad, i.e. one player from Saudi Arabia and one from Kuwait
5. One player from an associate nation other than the UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia
What is the maximum salary cap for every franchise at ILT20?
The organisers have specified that each franchise can have a maximum salary cap of USD 2 million. Of the 2 million, USD 1.5 million is supposed to be spent by each franchise on player retentions, direct signings and at the auction. Though there is no maximum individual player salary, the minimum individual player salary level is kept at USD 10,000.
All five franchises will also have the option to pick a Wildcard Player, whose salary will be over the stipulated player purse.
“In addition to the above squad composition, 1 additional Wildcard Player may be added to the squad, beyond the original squad of 21-23 players,” read the ILT20 organisers’ note to the franchises.
