David Hussey has stepped down from his role as the head of men’s team of Cricket Victoria (CV). The former Australian cricketer is set to take up a position with a new global venture that CV is launching in the coming weeks.
Hussey took up the position in August 2022 after leaving his role as head coach of the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL). During his tenure, he oversaw Victoria men’s program and played a key part in selection of players.
While he was in charge, Victoria reached two Sheffield Shield finals, in the 2022-23 and 2025-26 seasons, as well as the One-Day Cup final in 2024-25. Although the team did not secure any wins during that period, Hussey helped build a strong squad with a focus on the development of homegrown Victorian players.

CV general manager of cricket performance Graham Manou praised the 48-year-old former cricketer for his contribution to the team.
“David’s influence on the organisation and the broader Victorian cricket community is immeasurable,” Manou said. “Through his passion for the game, commitment to excellence and investment in people, David has helped strengthen the foundations of our male high-performance program while leaving a lasting legacy across Victorian cricket.”
Besides being the head, Hussey had also enjoyed a distinguished career with Victoria as a player. He featured in 87 Sheffield Shield matches and won three titles for the team. He also captained the state 21 times.
The announcement comes shortly after Victoria extended the contract of Chris Rogers as coach. The former Australia opening batter signed a contract extension for the next two seasons after the team reached their third Sheffield Shield final in the last five seasons under his leadership.
During the 2025-26 season, Rogers guided Victoria to seven Sheffield Shield victories, matching the state’s record for most wins in a season. However, the team narrowly missed out on the title, as they lost to South Australia while chasing a target of 196 runs.
