Mitchell Marsh ruled out of ODI series against Pakistan

Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out for the upcoming three-match ODI series between Australia and Pakistan, beginning on May 30, due to an ankle injury. He was originally set to lead the side in the absence of regular skipper Pat Cummins, but the all-rounder did not travel to Pakistan after returning home from the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In his absence, wicket-keeper Josh Inglis has stepped in as captain. Whether Marsh will play against Bangladesh remains to be seen. Marsh missed the final match of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL edition on May 23. He left for Australia following LSG’s match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 19 to join his team for the ODI tour against Pakistan.

While most of the players reached Rawalpindi by the weekend, Marsh did not fly because of his ankle. He has been ruled out of the entire three-match series in Pakistan. As of now, there is no confirmation on whether he will be able to join the team for their three-match ODI series in Bangladesh that starts on June 9, and the three-match T20I series, which starts on June 17.

Cricket Australia issues statment over Mitchell Marsh’s injury

A Cricket Australia spokesperson said, “Marsh will remain in Perth for further assessment and treatment until further notice. His availability for the white ball tour of Bangladesh will be determined in due course.”

With Marsh too missing the ODI series in Pakistan, Australia will be without several key players. Cummins and Travis Head are unavailable due to their involvement in the IPL 2026 playoffs, while bowlers Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Starc are also missing the tour. Cooper Connolly, Xavier Bartlett and Ben Dwarshuis were also left out of the tour because of their involvement in the IPL, but PBKS did not qualify for the playoffs.
