Matthew Breetzke has left the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) camp to travel back home to South Africa. The right-handed batter is understood to have flown back home before Lucknow Super Giants’ home game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 26. As per a report by ESPNcricinfo, Breetzke had to rush back home as a close family member on his wife’s side passed away. Matthew Breetzke was retained by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 75 lakhs.

Lucknow Super Giants have not provided any update on Breetzke’s potential return to the tournament. Meanwhile, Josh Inglis has joined the Lucknow Super Giants camp for IPL 2026. LSG’s next game is against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), at Wankhede on May 4.

With LSG’s batting unit struggling to rack up runs, Inglis may well slide into the playing XI.Inglis had informed franchises that he wasn’t going to be available for the entire season owing to his wedding. Punjab Kings (PBKS) released him due to his limited availability.

Inglis went into the auction and was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 8.60 crore. He had an impressive IPL season 2025 as he accumulated 278 runs, averaging 30.88 at a strike rate of 162.57. Lucknow Super Giants are at the bottom of the points table with just two wins and six losses.

They have four points at a net run rate (NRR) of -1.106.LSG have six matches left in the group stage, and six consecutive wins can get them through to the playoffs. Rishabh Pant is under relentless pressure as captain and has looked a pale shadow of himself.

Lucknow have also been chopping and changing a lot. They stuck to the opening pair of Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram for a few games before separating them. LSG then promoted Ayush Badoni to the top to open alongside Marsh, but then snapped the pairing and made Markram open in their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
